britten on the big screen

while most americans were stuffing their pieholes with turkey last thursday, we here at the cb home office were hoisting unions jacks while cooking up some *bubble and squeak in celebration of benjamin britten’s 99th birthday.  ol’ beavey capped off the party with another viewing of wes anderson’s latest cinematic masterpiece: moonrise kingdom.  in addition to delightful dialogue, glorious set pieces from 1965, and a star-crossed pair of precocious youths, the film’s emotional center blossoms during a britten opera and features the composer’s music throughout the soundtrack from start to finish.  portlanders can still catch this movie on the big screen at *laurelhurst theater tonight through thursday at 7pm.  hands down, it’s the most awesome way to ring in uncle benny’s centennial year!
