but at what cost?!

it’s unfortunate that david stabler wasn’t a go-get-em manhattan newspaper reporter a century ago… then he really would have had some drama to dish.  in 1909, when the newly appointed conductor for the new york phil came on board, he replaced half the musicians before the first concert and gave pink slips to 25 more at the season’s end.  the conductor?  gustav mahler.
