what’s on tap?

this saturday and monday, guest conductor mei-ann chen and the band bookend their program with a pair of symphonies: aaron copland’s #2 and camille saint-saëns’ #3.  inbetweenst these works, violin vixen nadja salerno-sonnenberg will strut her stuff with an absolutely wicked piece by astor piazzolla.

why go?  well, first of all, the beaver is thrilled to finally see a woman up there on the podium!  and it’s even a bit of a homecoming celebration for maestra chen, who in addition to leading the portland youth philharmonic from 2002-07, also served as the oregon symphony’s assistant conductor for a few years.  (she’s now head honcho for the kick-ass chicago sinfonietta and the memphis symphony orchestra ~ wowee!)  and as if that weren’t enough motivation to get tickets, ms. salerno-sonnenberg will be fiddling, scratching, and plucking dirty throughout piazzolla’s tango-infused four seasons of buenos aires ~ it’s gonna be sick, yo!

want more deets?  *click this sentence and get ‘er done.  see you at the  schnitzer!
