what’s on tap?

tomorrow, the oregon symphony welcomes the world’s most popular soprano for a special one-night-only concert.  renée fleming is so successful she even gets to bring her own hand-picked conductor: sebastian lang-lessing.  the maestro will lead our brilliant band in (you guessed it!) a slew of operatic gems, along with a few cross-over attempts.

why go?  in this life, one only gets so many chances to hear an angel sing.  i’ll level with you: the beaver knows bumpkis about opera.  it does know, however, that ms. fleming stands alone as the absolute reigning queen of her field.  being in the same room with her singing is like being in the same arena with lebron james dunking or the same studio with john burk announcing… a chance to witness pure genius.

cross your fingers and call (503) 228-7343 for ticket availability… and y’all come back tomorrow when the beavs interviews one of the guest artists mentioned above!  [hint: he’ll have a stick in his hand and he probably won’t be singing.]

oh, and shoutouts to some of my favorite orchestral sadhus: thanks for the comments, nancy and charles!
