a rubdown, a rinse, a ruckus – part III

in his pre-concert remarks saturday night, maestro kalmar announced the band’s final number would be sir edward elgar’s cocaine overture.  i was a bit surprised by the brazen title of this unfamiliar work, mentally preparing myself for 15 minutes of stimulating, euphoric, and energetic music-making.  oh man, uncle eddie certainly did not disappoint.  it was the first time all night the entire panoply of percussion and brass joined the rest of the band, which pretty much guarantees a fun finale.  overall, a perfect climax for a perfect program summed up in one perfect word: winning!

[btw, complete non sequitur: anyone else out there unable to turn away from the red, white, and blue elephant in the room?  anyone else out there wondering if ron or newt has one more chance to come from behind?  anyone else out there wondering if the hometown romney camp will be able to withstand the santorum tsunami bearing down on the great state of michigan?  ooh, the drama!  omg this rodent’s got election fever real bad, so i decided to turn my political passion local… tune in tomorrow when one of stumptown’s mayoral candidates tackles 10 questions from the beav!]  um, seriously.
