what’s on tap?

now what kind of britten buff would the beaver be if it didn’t give a shoutout for this show?  the oregon repertory singers will be offering their annual christmas concert this weekend and the program includes hymn to the virgin ~ a stellar choral work penned by a teenage benny britten.  the place to be is st. mary’s cathedral in northwest p-town, tonight and tomorrow evening at 8pm, as well as sunday afternoon at 2pm.  in addition to the britten, there’s lots of other great stuff on the menu as well: *click here for all the deets you could ever want.  hmm… now where did i put that faggots and peas recipe?

We attended last Sunday’s ORS matinee concert, and it was magnificent. They blend the extraordinary acoustics of the cathedral so beautifully with their voices, it made me wonder how many people over the years have come to believe in a Supreme Being simply from experiencing music like this. Truly, it soars to the heavens whether you believe in the original concept or not.
Get there early; parking around the cathedral disappears quickly, and be transported to an ethereal time of transcendent magic.
