we all have a face that we hide away forever

forgive me, gentle reader, for i have a confession to make: ever since i noticed the oregon symphony is having a concert on halloween, i’ve been slightly obsessed about attending the performance in costume.  specifically, i’m considering wearing the clothes of an 18th-century aristocratic gentleman… you know, someone who would have gone to concerts that wolfgang or josef or Ludwig were actually conducting… you know, ruffles and powdered wigs and knee high socks.  i could make a case that dressing up would essentially be a legitimate form of conceptual art, providing an opportunity for critical inquiry around the relationship of social class and classical music, the role fashion has played influencing our historical concepts of gender, and how the elemental dichotomy of audience/performer can be altered.  i could, but i won’t.  instead, i’ll just admit that i think it would be pretty fucking cool.  wanna join me?  wanna underwrite a costume?  drop me a line if you’re interested in getting this not-so-secret flash mob up and running… brian@brianhoray.com
