back in the saddle

after a long 122 days, i finally got back into the schnitz yesterday to hear the oregon symphony in all its glory, weaseling my way into a rehearsal for the upcoming russian extravaganza.  i’m tellin’ you what – please (for the love of all that is holy) do yourself a favor and get your ass to one of these concerts.  i could go on and on about the bat-shit crazy opening ditty, or the stunning fiddle-playing of visiting superstar elina vähälä, or the chance to see an honest-to-god concertmaster tryout, but i won’t.  instead, let me just tell you that during an early crescendo in the rachmaninoff symphony, the intensity of the music was so great that coach kalmar lost his grip on the baton.  i watched, mesmerized, as his magic wand made a graceful arc through the air and landed a good 7 rows back into the schnitzer audience.  if the raw power of cymbals and a tuba can make a trained professional lose control, just imagine what it’s gonna do to you.  saturday, sunday, or monday – the choice is yours.  just go.  go.  go!  [c’mon now, don’t make me use caps here…]
