this american rodent

well, yesterday was quite a day for the classical beaver.  quite a day, yessiree.  just as i’m about to leave for work, i get a call from an area code i don’t recognize.  after debating whether or not to let it go to voice mail, i decide to pick up.  i now know that (312) is a chicago area code – a fact i’m not soon to forget.  the lady on the other end says her name is sarah koenig, and promptly explains that she’s a producer from wbez radio in the windy city.  the call letters ring a bell, but i don’t quite know why.  ms. koenig jogs my memory in a big way by clarifying she works for a show called this american life, and asks if i’m familiar with the show.  um… i’ve cried with the show, i’ve laughed with the show, i would agree in a heartbeat to have ira glass’ child… um, yes i’m familiar with the show goddamnit!  sarah goes on to explain that a researcher for the show stumbled upon the classical beaver through some sort of blog roll (whatever that is) and – oh hell, long story short, she wants to know if i’d be interested in being a featured segment for an upcoming episode with the working title “my alter ego” or something like that.  at this point my memory is a little shaky because i think i made a small doo-doo in my shorts upon hearing the news.  needless to say, everyone here at the cb home office is unbelievably excited about this small miracle!  i’m scheduled to talk with another producer later next week to hash out more details, but jeez-o-man, i just had to share this asap with all y’all.  a big phat thank you to all who have supported the beave this past year… stay tuned for further developments!  wow.
