some classical beaver political analysis

today marks the last official day of the 111th congress, and from one busy beaver to another, i salute these 530+ americans.  sure – i may not have agreed with everything they’ve done over the past two years, but gee-willikers, they may have been the most ambitious congress i’ll ever see in my lifetime: beginning landmark healthcare reform, passing an enormous economic stimulus package (1/3 of which comes in the form of tax cuts), resuscitating the american auto industry, expanding health insurance coverage to 11 million kids, regulating wall street in a significant way, protecting credit card consumers, ratifying a nuclear reduction treaty with russia, extending lower taxes for everyone, finally passing the 9/11 first responders bill, repealing don’t ask don’t tell, giving the fda the power to regulate tobacco, and designating over two million acres of wilderness in nine states (over 200,000 of which are in oregon – the beavers thank you).  and those are just the highlights.

too bad you weren’t as good campaigning as you were legislating.

okay… on with the music!
