An Open Letter to Brett Campbell

ATTN: Brett Campbell, Willamette Week Classical Music Critic

RE: Classical Music Preview, 8 December 2010

With all due respect, Mr. Campbell, you can go suck it.  While everyone is entitled to their misguided opinions, describing the PBO’s rendition of The Messiah as the “best played” and “best sung” performance this season is unequivocal bullshit.  Over the past few years, the string sections of the Oregon Symphony (ferociously spearheaded by smokin’ hot concertmaster Jun Iwasaki) have proven time and again they have absolute command over any style of music – including Baroque.  The band is going to share the packed stage with period instruments, an inspired 48-person choir, and four solo vocalists flying in from all over the planet just to sing at the Schnitz.  Simply put, if Handel is your man, the December 18-19 Oregon Symphony shows are going to be redunkulous.
